内容梗概 (abstract) Large-scale distributed systems, such as high-performance computing, distributed storage, or cloud systems provide large amounts of resources to meet high demands.
For many reasons including to increase redundancy, increase available bandwidth, or improve locality, these systems are becoming multi-site multi-homed.
Even if the wide-area network (WAN) interconnecting these sites have limited resources, networking protocols and applications, in general, use only one path through the network at a time even if many are available, under-utilizing the network.
Multipath TCP (MPTCP) is one of many solutions to this problem that tackles the problem from the transport layer, providing an efficient multipathing solution thats also backwards-compatible with legacy applications and networks and performs well even when the paths costs are not equal, such as in WANs.
However, since MPTCP is a transport-layer protocol, it only has control over connection and flow management, but not the route. This means MPTCP alone does not solve the under-utilization problem. This thesis introduces a simple multipath OpenFlow controller that automatically finds the best set of paths for any pair of hosts communicating using MPTCP. It was tested on our own testbed. The results were satisfactory, as maximum bandwidth utilization was achieved using this controller.
